Csikszereda a special place!
Lies in the heart of the Carpathian basin and as such has a very different climate from the rest of Romania. Very cold! The town and its valley are often much colder than the villages in the surrounding mountains. It is known as 'mini-Siberia' as its temperatures can drop to -30 or even -40 degrees C. General forecasts for Romania are often inadequate in taking these factors into account. Conditions which probably account for the very high percentage of native Hungarians who have lived here, the Szekeley people in Szekely-fold, for up to 6,000 years!. I have lived here permanently for the last 10 years and in other parts of Romania since 1995 so I know it 'intimately' especially for its cold weather. When I traveled from here to Debrecen one Winter I noted a 50 degree difference in temperature between the two places. So if you want authentic reports on the weather please reach me.
