    Live here

Just to even out the other comment. Yes it is an old seaside town which is behind the times a little. I moved here ten years ago from Surrey and i love it. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway with great views and green flag beaches then you will love it too. Old style entertainment, childrens arcades, and crazy golf in Sandown with lots more across the Island including Blackgang Chine and Robin Hill very nearby. I have stayed in several hotels and you get what you pay for. Sandown is cheaper for a reason the accomadation is better in Shanklin next town along. For a UK beach holiday you cant go wrong and the locals are very welcoming. I'm not biased if I didnt think it was beautiful why would I stay here? Try Kings Bar and The Reef for drinking and well proced enjoyable food. Bises from Sandown are very cheap and there is also a train service that will get you around if you want to explore. Its a small Island with lots to see. Enjoy:)

    Never Again

Arrived in Sandown I.O.W. as a family of four (2 adults 2 children) on 14 Aug 2010. First impression was of a tired and rundown holiday resort which had clearly seen better days probabaly twenty years ago or more. Our guest house was run by a very friendly and welcoming family who seemed quietly embarassed that they and us had to live nextdoor to a wrecked and delapidated hotel for a neighbour, luckily for us only for 1 week. Sandown unfortunately has too many rundown ex hotels and large houses which now seemed to be turned into bedsits for the bums and dregs of society. We as a family have travelled the world, including America most of Europe, Eastern Europe Greece e.t.c. however this was the first time I never went out for a pint in the evening on my own. Put simply the pubs are full of underage youths drunk and fighting, kids play areas with kids running about like animals when people try to eat and just general scruffyness. Total restaurant poor service complacency seems the norm.
