25-6-2009 WE HAD A GREAT TIME. LOVED THE HOTEL MENGER BAR!! CUTE HOTEL-LOTS OF HISTORY.

25-6-2009 Keep in mind this is a HISTORIC hotel. The lobby is a virtual museum of downtown San Antonio history. VERY nice. The rooms are very nice, but of course the bathroom is older. Everything worked well but was not as updated as other features. Service was wonderful and parking was with the valet was so easy for such a busy weekend (Fiesta had just started). There are certainly cheaper hotels but you can't beat being 20 steps from the Alamo!

25-6-2009 We were upgraded to a lovely suite in the historic part of the hotel. Had a drink Friday night in the beautiful, historic bar and a delicious breakfast Sat. morning. Parking expensive - $25/day...I usually fly, so that may be the going rate. All staff very in tune to customer service. Would absolutely return!

25-6-2009 NO AIR CONDITIONING!!! You've got to be kidding me! San Antonio in December aint New York. Our room was over 80 degrees and the A/C did not work. Hotel told us they were on a "one pipe" system (didn't that go out at the turn of the 19th Century??). I know this is an historic hotel but this was a bit ridiculous. Management told us they could only have the heat or the A/C on, not both and they elected to turn on the heat. We checked out a few hours later due to the stuffiness and heat after they brought us a box fan as a token offering. Would NOT recommend this hotel.

25-6-2009 Very nice hotel. Rooms are small since it is old, but excellent room. Our room overlooked the Alamo next door and the River Center Mall was on the other side. We were dead center in town just a short walk to the riverwalk. The hotel had an excellent Buffet breakfast for $25. The bar is really nice and there is an Ice Cream Parlor just outside. Parking is a problem and cost $25/day. Once there, you can (have to) walk to the Alamo Dome and all the sites you would want to visit downtown. It is a very nice hotel.
